Officers arrested North Carolina resident, Shasta Smith earlier this month after they said she sold heroin to an undercover officer at the Woodlawn Inn.

The motel is one of several on a stretch of Woodlawn Road near Interstate 77 where police have been focusing on drugs and prostitution. They said Smith was among a group of local business people who attended a news conference on Oct. 22 where police detailed their operation to clean up crime along that corridor.

The next day, they said Smith sold the undercover officer $100 worth of heroin.

“She was the heroin supplier for anyone that wished to have that at this hotel,” said Lt. Sean Mitchell, who oversees that area for the Police Department’s Westover Division.

Police served two search warrants at the motel where they found drugs and cash.

They charged Smith with trafficking in heroin along with a string of other charges. Late Monday, she was in the Mecklenburg County jail with her bond set at more than $100,000.
