Cara Anaya-Carlisi is a thirty year old Phoenix area resident who suffers from a rare condition called Persistent Sexual Arousal Syndrome (PSAS) or Persistent Genital Arousal Disorder (PGAD).  This is where a person can have numerous orgasms that are uncontrollable.  In Anaya-Carlisi’s case, she can have up to 90 orgasms an hour.

She developed the symptoms three years ago while shopping in a store.  Whether it was the smell of the foods or anything she touched, she became aroused.  It became so bad that she fell to the ground and had multiple orgasms. She had this to say about the disorder:

“It’s not something I wish on anybody.” It makes doing the most basic things – going to work or going out shopping – extremely difficult to achieve. To outsiders it might sound wonderful but it is unfulfilling and shameful. I’d do anything to find a cure.”

You might wonder about her marital status?  She has been married for eleven years with a ten year old son, Merrick. Her husband feels the pain she is going through:

“She’s in pain, and there’s nothing I can do to help her.”

It has become so paralyzing that it has impacted her ability to be a mom.  She will not take her kid to the park, zoo or hiking.  For the most part, she avoids going to public places for fear that people will notice. It has also impacted her ability to hold down a job.  She was a waitress until this condition became prevalent and has been out of work ever since:

“You can’t say to your future boss, ‘I may not be able to come in today because I suffer from orgasms.”
