A high profile Obama fundraiser and gay rights activist has been charged along with his boyfriend with the sexual abuse a 15-year-old boy with his boyfriend.

Terry Bean, 66, who raised more than $500,000 for Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election bid, was arrested at his Portland home Wednesday and indicted with two counts of third-degree sodomy and one count of third-degree sex abuse.

The attorneys representing Bean are maintaining that he is the victim of an ‘extortion ring’, involving several men ‘known to law enforcement’.

According to police, the alleged sexual encounter involving a 15-year-old boy had taken place back in 2013 in Eugene, Oregon, police said.

Bean’s ex-boyfriend, Kiah Loy Lawson, 25, has also been arrested and charged in the alleged abuse.

Bean is well known and respected among the gay rights activist community and with the Democratic Party.

Bean was accused earlier this year by Lawson, that his former lover secretly filmed their sexual encounters.

Bean’s lawyer Kristin Winemiller refuted the claims of sexual abuse in a statement, “Terry Bean is a highly respected community leader who has devoted his life to bettering our community.Over the course of several months in 2013-2014 Terry was the victim of an extortion ring led by several men known to law enforcement. This current arrest is connected to the ongoing investigation of that case in which Mr Bean has fully cooperated.”

She added, “No allegations against Terry Bean should be taken at face value.
‘We look forward to the opportunity to clear his name.”

Bean was released on $50,000 bail.
