According to CNN, A woman in Ferguson accidentally fatally shot herself in the head with a gun she brought to prepare for possible Ferguson-related unrest, according to sources briefed on the police investigation.

The shooting happened Friday night in downtown St. Louis, the city’s Metropolitan Police Department said.

The female victim, identified as Becca Campbell, 26, was a passenger in a car that had been involved in an auto accident.

Her 33-year-old boyfriend was believed to be driving.

According to sources, The boyfriend, who wasn’t identified, told police that the couple had bought a gun because of fears of unrest related to the pending grand jury decision on the shooting of Michael Brown.

He told detectives that as they drove late Friday night, the victim was waving the gun, jokingly saying the couple were ready for Ferguson.

As he He ducked to get out of the way of the gun, their vehicle accidentally rear-ended another car.

He maintained the accident caused the gun to fire and she was struck by a bullet in the head, the sources said.

The Campell was to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

An investigation is ongoing, police want to be positive that the boyfriend’s story  is correct, the sources said.

Police are awaiting forensics test results performed on the gun, as part of the ongoing investigation.
