A Michigan man hired a mentally challenged handyman to kill his wife so he could have kinky sex in a dungeon with other women, according to prosecutors.

Bob Bashara, 56, who goes by “Master Bob” in BDSM circles, is on trial for the 2012 murder of his wife, Jane Bashara.

The two-month trial, with more than 70 witnesses, has exposed the seedy secret life of the Grosse Pointe Park businessman.

“He created one world; he was living in another,” Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor Lisa Lindsey said during closing remarks. “And when those two worlds collided, Jane Bashara ended up dead.”

Jane Bashara, 56, was found beaten and strangled in her Mercedes-Benz SUV in a Detroit alley in January 2012.

In the public eye, Bob Bashara served as a Rotary Club president, lived in an affluent neighborhood and raised money for charity.

In his secret world, Bob Bashara kept a sex dungeon below a bar, the Hard Luck Lounge, and frequently took his mistress, Rachel Gillett, and other women there for bondage and masochism, witnesses said. He used cocaine at a private golf course and frequented BDSM parties with women he met on BDSM websites, the Detroit Free Press reported.

He and his wife fought often, making Jane Bashara say she “can’t trust what he says,” Lindsey told the courtroom Tuesday. She wrote in financial documents her husband should “never” touch her money.

Bob Bashara coerced handyman Joseph Gentz to kill his wife so the philandering husband could keep his salacious lifestyle, prosecutors said.

He paid Gentz with a Cadillac, money and his wife’s wedding ring, according to authorities.

Gentz pleaded guilty to strangling the wife in her garage.

Gentz, who has a low IQ, is serving a sentence of 17 to 28 years as part of a plea deal. He refused to testify in Bashara’s murder trial.

Bob Bashara faces charges of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, obstruction of justice and witness intimidation.

He is already serving a prison sentence between six and 20 years for trying to have Gentz killed in jail.

After his wife’s death, Bob Bashara asked one woman to write fake posts on a website that would make people believe Jane Bashara had a boyfriend that could have killed her, Therese Giffin, who had been to the sex dungeon, told the court.

Defense attorney Michael McCarthy said the prosecutor’s theories have holes.

“Bob had no desire for Jane to die. He and Rachel Gillett would continue to live this double life he had,” McCarthy said.

Someone in the courtroom groaned when Bashara said he loved his wife and would never want to hurt her.

The jury will deliberate after arguments close Thursday.
