A Texas cop who is also a pastor had God on his side is lucky after fatally shooting a gunman following a wild car chase earlier this year, authorities say.

The Hedwig Village Police Department has released video of the July shooting, the first fatal on-duty cop shooting in the city in nearly 20 years, the Houston Chronicle reported.

In the surveillance video, the suspect can be seen pretending to put his hands up before pulling a gun on Officer Andra Gibson. The officer then fired at the suspect, who collapsed to the ground.

The suspect, 36-year-old Emilio Solis, died on the way to the hospital.

“A shot came through the window, and normally, that is where an officer would be in a felony traffic stop,” Hedwig Village police chief David Gott told Click 2 Houston. “He was moving toward the back, over around to the back of his car which was obviously a good move and then he had the one shot to his pants leg.”
