A Trenton woman is accused of intentionally driving into a crowd of people outside a city bar early Friday and backing up twice to run over a woman, leaving her with serious injuries, police said.

Natasha Hightower, 29, got into her car outside the Anchor Bar around 1:30 a.m. and drove into a crowd of people, Lt. Steven Varn said. No one was initially hurt.

Hightower then backed up and then drove forward to ram the crowd again, Varn said. Hightower struck a 20-year-old woman, who became entangled in the front of the car, Varn said.

Hightower backed up again, dislodging the woman, Varn said. Hightower then pulled forward and ran over her a second time, Varn said.

Hightower was stopped by police at the scene, preventing further injury, Varn said.
The victim was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton with serious lower body injuries. She was taken into emergency surgery. Her condition was not known Friday, Varn said.

Hightower was charged with aggravated assault, assault by auto, driving while intoxicated, refusal to take a breath test and weapons possession charges, Varn said.
