Original story–A black teenager was shot and killed by a police officer at a gas station just miles from Ferguson, Missouri, where Michael Brown was killed.

Antonio Martin, 18, who has been identified as the suspect by police, was killed at a Mobil gas station around 1am.

Martin’s mother, Toni Martin, was consoled by friends at the scene of the shooting, and was clearly emotional at the death of her son, screaming ‘that’s my baby,’ as she pointed to the location of her dead son’s body covered with a yellow plastic sheet.

According to police, an officer was pulling into the gas station for a ‘routine business check’ and observed two men outside.
They officer maintains Martin pulled out a gun and ‘fearing for his life’, fired off several shots at Martin, killing him.
Police say a firearm was found at the scene, which they say belonged to Martin.

Sergeant Brian Schellman of the St. Louis Police Department said that they would be releasing additional information at a press conference scheduled for 7am, and the footage clearly showing ‘the gentleman raise a handgun and the officer fire a shot’.

Schellman said the officer only drew his firearm when one of the people outside the gas station pulled out a gun.

Witness accounts say the officers approached Martin and a friend and wanted to conduct a search. The second man was not believed to be injured, he fled the scene, police are still looking for this second person.
Sergeant Brian Schellman said: ‘At approximately 11:15 PM on December 23, 2014, a police officer with the City of Berkeley was conducting a routine business check at the Mobile Gas Station located at 6800 N. Hanley when he observed two male subjects on the side of the building.

‘The Berkeley Police Officer exited his vehicle and approached the subjects when one of the men pulled a handgun and pointed it at the officer.

‘Fearing for his life, the Berkeley Officer fired several shots, striking the subject, fatally wounding him. The second subject fled the scene.

‘The Berkeley Police Department requested the St. Louis County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit to handle the investigation.’

Sgt Schellman continued: ‘St. Louis County Police Detectives have recovered the deceased subject’s handgun at the scene.

‘At this time, I cannot confirm the identity of the deceased subject. The investigation is on-going and further details will follow later this morning as they become available.’
Eyewitnesses claimed that police failed to call Mr. Antonio an ambulance as he lay mortally wounded on the ground.

Police were unable to confirm whether an ambulance was requested at this stage of the investigation.
