Police in Texas have issued a warrant for the missing driver of an armored truck found empty and arrested his father.

Police were searching Monday night for the driver of an armored car that was found empty, with the engine running, in an alley in Amarillo.

A warrant today charged missing driver Trent Michael Cook, 24, of Amarillo, with first-degree felony theft of over $200,000. Officers arrested Cook’s father, Brian Keith Hodge, 43, on Monday evening for tampering with or fabricating evidence in connection with the case.

“Investigators have developed credible evidence Cook has access to a rifle and handguns, and could be considered dangerous due to this information,” Amarillo police said in a statement.

Police found the Rochester Armored Car Co. vehicle at around 7:50 a.m. on Monday, after receiving a call that it was standing unoccupied.

“There was no sign of a struggle or forced entry into the vehicle,” police said, adding that “investigators have information that the suspect had discussed how a theft like this would be committed.”

Cook, who was not an armed employee, is 5 feet, 6 inches tall, weighs 165 pounds, and has blond hair and hazel eyes, police said. He was last seen wearing a company uniform.

Investigators have not released details on the missing contents of the truck.
