Authorities have apprehended the man who they say abandoned his armored car in Texas Monday and took off with the $200,000 inside.

Trent Michael Cook, 24, was arrested in a Colorado hotel room following an investigation by Amarillo police detectives in Texas, reports the Colorado Springs Police Department.

Officers in Colorado set up a surveillance team, and he and an accomplice were arrested Wednesday.

Police said they had information Cook might be “heavily armed and uncooperative with police” but the suspect was detained without incident.

Cook allegedly abandoned his vehicle in Texas on Monday morning and took the money, which has since been recovered. He worked for the Rochester Armored Car Co. and the vehicle did not have any signs of a forced entry or robbery, according to authorities.

The money was supposed to fill ATM machines in the area.

Cook has been charged with first-degree felony theft of more than $200,000.

His father, Brian Keith Hodge, 43, was arrested Monday night for tampering with evidence.

Police did not say how they located Cook, but a day after his disappearance, police in Amarillo contacted officers in Colorado Springs – about 360 miles away – and said they had “rapidly developing leads” he was located there.

Charges are pending on the accomplice, who was not identified.
