He is being hailed a hero on and off the field. On Sunday, New England Patriots massive defensive tackle Vince Wilfork helped the New England Patriots win the AFC Championship game over the Colts to sent them to the Super Bowl, then after the game while he was driving home he witnessed a car wreck and immediately got out on the Massachusetts highway and helped rescue the victim in the crash.

The accident happened shortly after the Patriots beat the Indianapolis Colts for the AFC title and a trip to the Super Bowl.

According to Massachusetts State Police calls came in of a report of a car accident on Route 1 near Foxborough early Monday morning, as police arrived, they discovered the defensive tackle already on the scene.

Wilfork was attempting to help free the driver trapped in an overturned Jeep Wrangler close to Gillette Stadium.

The driver, Mary Ellen Brooks, 38, was trapped in the vehicle,  State Trooper Kenneth Proulx managed to pry the Jeep door open while Wilfork reached in with his massive one hand and pulled her out of the vehicle.

After Brooks was out of the vehicle and Wilfork, left the scene.

“It was something we saw and we knew she needed help, so we helped,” Wilfork told reporters Monday, according to a WCVB report. “The good thing is that we got her to safety.”

“The first thing I told her was ‘don’t panic.’  My job was to help the person in the car,” he said.

The Foxboro Fire Department and Emergency services responded to the scene to check on Brooks’ condition.

Unfortunately for Brooks, Massachusetts State Police arrested her for operating under the influence of alcohol and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
