PROVO, Utah – Attorneys appear to be negotiating a plea deal for Megan Huntsman, the mother accused of suffocating six of her newborn children.

She was back in court Monday but Huntsman and her defense team didn’t sign prosecutors’ deal yet.

Huntsman was expected to enter a plea for six counts of murder Monday.

The case started last year when a total of seven dead infants were found packaged in boxes at Huntsman’s Pleasant Grove home.

Officials said her estranged husband found the first body and called police who uncovered the rest.

Police arrested Huntsman and she later confessed to giving birth to birth to seven children over a 10-year period.

She told authorities she killed six of them and the seventh was stillborn.

Prosecutors said the issue has been balancing a deal the defense feels is fair to Huntsman while also achieving justice for the community.

Authorities have not confirmed the details of the possible deal at this time.

The next scheduled hearing is Feb. 9.

However, if a deal is agreed upon and signed between now and then, a special date will be added to the court calendar for that.
