A disturbing video shows a ninth grade high school student grabbing and slamming a teacher to the ground.

The incident occurred Thursday at John F. Kennedy High School in Paterson, New Jersey, after the 62-year-old teacher confiscated the freshman’s cell phone during class.

The video, taken by another student, shows the 16-year-old student grab the teacher, throw him into a desk and and slam him to the ground in an effort to get the phone back.

Other students try to calm their classmate during the attack, but they do nothing to stop him.

Police later arrested the teenager and charged him with assault. He has also been suspended from school.

School administrators said that cellphones are allowed in class, but they can be taken away if students aren’t using them for academic purposes.
