Top Capo For “El Chapo” Guzman Arrested in Military Operation

Mexican Government officials have confirmed the detention of the head operative and leader of the armed wing of the Sinaloa Cartel in Chihuahua, Mexico by the Armed Forces.

Heriberto Salgueiro Nevarez is known as one of the chief proliferators of violence in the Sinaloa controlled territories. Nevarez is the brother of Jose Salgueiro Nevarez aka “El Che”, and Noel Salgueiro Nevarez aka “El Flaco” both captured in 2011 and 2012.

Both men were top lieutenants to the boss of the Sinaloa Drug Cartel, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman. “El Flaco” was the founder and leader of the Gente Nueva, which is part of the Sinaloa Federation, and close confidant to “El Chapo” Guzman.

Monday’s operation in the city of Culiacan resulted in the capture of Heriberto Salgueiro Nevarez. According to Borderland Beat, After the arrest of El Flaco Salgueiro, El Che settled scores on behalf of his brother and “El Chapo.” He was then promoted top Lieutenant in Chihuahua until his arrest in 2012.

Heriberto Salgueiro Nevarez controls the production operation for the Sinaloa Cartel including the planting and production of opium and the production of marijuana in the mountainous areas centrally located in the middle of Chihuahua and Sonora.

He cultivated a bloody conflict against other criminal groups including Los Zetas for control of the border plazas, which are key for the transit of narcotics.

Federal forces seized a rifle, five side arms, 19 cell phones, $18,900 in U.S. Dollars, and half a kilo of Heroin during his arrest.
