KOMO-T.V. said it best: “Troopers don’t always stop people in the HOV carpool lanes, but when they do, Dos gets a $124 ticket.”

A Washington State Motorcycle Trooper parked along the left shoulder of I-5 South in Fife, Washington Monday afternoon witnessed a driver and a strange man in his passenger seat drive by him in the HOV carpool lane.

The trooper decided to stop the driver. As he walked up to the vehicle, he realized the “passenger” was a cardboard cutout of “The Most Interesting Man in the World” from the Dos Equis beer commercial. The cut out was dressed in a windbreaker and safely buckeled in his seat.

State Trooper Guy Gill said the motorist cheekily told him, “He’s my best friend,” when he knew he got caught. According to Gill, people have tried all kinds of gimmicks to get away with driving in the HOV lane, such as using sleeping bags and other types of props. But he admits this was the best one yet.

The driver received a $124 fine. Fortunately “The Most Interesting Man” wasn’t confiscated. However, Gill warned him not to use him again. Officers from around the country has started documenting some of the ingenious ways people attempted to scam driving in the HOV lanes. Below are some examples.
