One Dead, Two Injured After Suspects Open Fire At NSA HeadQuarters

A gun battle erupted Monday outside the National Security Agency at Fort Meade, after two people in a vehicle attempted to ram the entrance gate Monday morning. One person so far is confirmed according to reports cited by U.S. officials.

The incident is not believed to be a terrorist related incident according to an FBI spokesman., who said at least one of the people in the vehicle died in the ensuing firefight.

Federal officials said two men dressed as women sped through the gate of the secure complex around 9 a.m. Monday morning. Officers who attempted to stop the vehicle; came under gunfire from the suspects. An NSA agent, who was injured in the process, returned fire killing one of the suspects and critically wounding the other gunman.

The 44-year-old officer and the 20-year-old assailant were both rushed to the University of Maryland TraumaCenter.

The NSA headquarters located in Fort Meade, which is also home to the Defense Information Systems Agency and the U.S. Cyber Command Center. The base has 11,000 military personnel and over 29,000 civilian employees and contractors who work in the sprawling compound.
