Tyren Jones, running back for the University of Alabama Crimson Tide is the third player arrested inside of a week after being busted on a marijuana charge.

According to the Tuscaloosa Police Department, Jones was charged with 2nd degree possession of marijuana. The running back posted $1,000 bond on Tuesday to secure his release.

In February, Jones was suspended by Head Coach Nick Saban indefinitely for conduct not to the standard of the University of Alabama football program.

After this latest arrest, Coach Saban has dismissed Jones from the team.

Saban said in a statement “Jones has been given every opportunity academically and from a team rules standpoint. However, he has failed to do any of the requirements necessary to comply with the rules and regulations of the Alabama football program.”

The head coach added, “He was dismissed from the team when he refused to follow the parameters given to him for reinstatement,” Saban said.

In addition, Saban dismissed Safety Geno Smith and troubled defensive lineman Jonathan Taylor after their arrests last weekend.

Jones and Brandon Lee Hansberry,25, were arrested after being stopped for speeding by a police officer in a white Dodge Challenger for 11:27 a.m. Monday morning.

The officer said he smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and discovered drug scales inside the car belonging to Hansberry, the Associated Press reported.

As a redshirt freshman, Jones rushed for 224 yards and two touchdowns last season.
