Woman who Smothered Her Baby Inside Bathroom of New York City Restaurant Charged with Murder

A who smothered her baby after locking herself in the restroom of a New York City restaurant told Police she was “hearing the devil’s voice,” prior to murdering her child.

Police charged Latisha Fisher with murder charges, in the death of her 1-year-old son, Gavriel Ortiz-Fisher, The NYPD said early Tuesday.

A restaurant employee found the boy foaming at the mouth. Paramedics rushed the toddler to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The employee at 5 Boro Burger restaurant found the baby after noticing Fisher was inside the bathroom for an unusual amount of time.

When the worker went to check, they discovered the boy unconscious on the 35-year-old woman’s lap, foaming excessively out of his mouth and nose. Fisher told the employee that she put her hand over his mouth “so he can go to sleep.” She then said, “the Devil made me do it.”

The employee immediately performed CPR on the child till paramedics arrived. Marcus Comeau, 35, who was in the restaurant said, “The baby was taken out with a mask on his face. Afterward, the mother came out in handcuffs; She didn’t look distressed; she just kept her head down.

Fisher has a criminal history, with four arrests on her record. Mayor Bill de Blasio told reporters that Gavriel’s death was a “horrible tragedy.”

“Being a parent, this one grabs me. It’s profoundly troubling,” DeBlasio said. Child services have launched an investigation into the tragic death.
