A 24 year old Danbury high school teacher has been arrested for having sexual relations with a male student off campus and for giving him alcohol.

Kayla Mooney turned herself into police on Tuesday at 5:00 pm. In February, police were contacted by the Danbury school administration and a seven week investigation was conducted.

An arrest warrant was issued for Mooney in which she was charged with second-degree sexual assault, and providing alcohol to a minor. She was released without bail. April 14th is the date she is due in court.

Mooney is currently on paid administrative leave.
Sal Pascarella, the school superintendent, sent this message to parents about the incident:

“We are all very disappointed that this happened to one of our faculty members. Obviously, there is a whole process we have to go through with this investigation. At this point, these are allegations.”

Mooney is the third teacher in the area to face these types of charges since February. First, Timothy Leonard, a Sacred Heart University teacher was charged with reportedly sexually assaulting a 14 year old boy in an SUV. He is currently on leave.

Then, Brian Stroh, a first grade teacher at Bethel Elementary School, resigned from his position after sexually abusing three children. He was released on bail.
