The Obama administration gave amnesty to an illegal immigrant and known gang member accused of killing a former “America’s Next Top Model” contestant and three others in a drug-fueled murder spree earlier this year.

Emmanuel Jesus Rangel-Hernandez was a known gang member with numerous drug arrests on his record at the time of his approval for President Obama’s amnesty for Dreamers, Senator Chuck Grassley (IA) revealed Tuesday.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services had now admitted to the catastrophic error in the case two years ago when it approved Rangel-Hernandez for amnesty. The agency has since revoked his status, one month after he went on a murderous spree, claiming the lives of four people in North Carolina.

USCIS Director Leon Rodriguez released a statement admitting the agency’s catastrophic error in approving Rangel-Hernandez’s application. “The procedures that were in place at the time, Rangel Hernandez’s request for deferred action and related employment authorization should have been denied,” Rodriguez said.

Grassley said the agency either missed or didn’t check their databases, which listed Mr. Rangel-Hernandez’s gang ties and still gave approval.

“It’s no secret that USCIS is under intense pressure to approve every DACA application that comes across their desk. Based on this information, it clearly shows that adequate protocols are not in place to protect public safety,” Mr. Grassley said. “The fact is that this tragedy should have been avoided if the agency had a zero-tolerance policy concerning criminal aliens and gang members.”

Police charged Mr. Rangel-Hernandez with the murder of Mirjana Puhar, a contestant last year on the “Top Model” program, and three other people in North Carolina back in March.
