Drug Dealer Straps Electronic Monitor Device on His Cat and Escapes

A cocaine dealer allegedly removed his court-ordered electronic tracking device and placed it on his cat and before going on the lam. Virginia Police charged Diego Martinez-Espinoza, who is in the country illegally from Mexico, with attempting to distribute more than 10 kilos of cocaine.

He allegedly escaped law enforcement by strapping his GPS tracking device on his little furry friend. The Chesterfield Sheriff’s Department confirmed that Espinoza escaped custody but could not provide further details his arrest, bail package or whereabouts.

The first alert had gone off on Martinez-Espinoza’s device notifying Police he was traveling south in February. After further tampering alerts, Police officials placed a new tracking monitor on him. However, on March 1 the new device went dark, according to court documents.

The owner of the Highland Springs residence, where Martinez-Espinoza lived, discovered the electronic device strapped on the drug dealer’s cat wearing the tracker, with the suspect nowhere in sight.

The U.S. Marshalls have joined the efforts to apprehend Martinez-Espinoza, who is believed to have acquaintances in North Carolina.
