Violent clashes with a large group of youths have left at least seven officers in Baltimore. Capt. Eric Kowalczyk said one officer was left unresponsive, and others sustained broken bones after the crowd threw bricks, rocks and other objects at cops.

The violence transpired mere hours after the funeral for Freddie Gray, who died in Police custody of a mysterious spinal injury.

The riot began in Mondawmin Mall and quickly spread to other areas as a column of riot police officers attempted to push the crowd back. Police said reports were coming in of groups setting fires around the area. Earlier, on a photographer was assaulted by the group, who also surrounded and destroyed by people jumping on it.

The rioting comes after Baltimore police released an alert claiming three notorious street gangs were teaming up to”take out” members of law enforcement. In a statement released Monday, Police officials said they received information regarding a “credible threat” that the Black Guerilla Family, the Bloods, and the Crips have partnered against the police.

Officials warned law enforcement agencies to enact proper precautions.
The police alert comes as outraged residents gather for the funeral of Freddie Gray, who died in police custody of a mysterious spinal injury.

Police spokesman Capt. Eric Kowalczyk didn’t elaborate whether there is a connection between the alert issued and death of Gray. Kowalczyk said the nationwide alert has been circulated to multiple law enforcement agencies.

Earlier this year, Baltimore police said the Black Guerilla Family sent a man into the Northeastern District station house with marijuana, cocaine and a loaded gun to test the station’s security.
