Lousiana Police wants to question A projected first-round pick in this Thursday’s NFL draft in connection with the death of his pregnant ex-girlfriend.

Police stopped short of declaring La’el Collins, the former LSU offensive lineman a suspect. However, investigators are seeking information about the murder of Brittney Mills, 29, who was found dead in her home last week.

Police say Mills suffered multiple gunshot wounds on Friday night. Paramedics rush the eight-month pregnant woman to the hospital where doctors pronounced her dead but managed to save the unborn child and is expected to survive.

Detectives believe Mills knew the identity of her killer. Collins is gearing up for Thursday’s NFL Draft in Chicago. His attorney, Jim Boren told ESPN that although he hasn’t spoken with Police, he has been in constant communication with the lead investigator.

‘We are taking the investigation seriously; We’ve made attempts to rule him out as a suspect. We will provide any information to the police, and eventually Collins will sit down for questioning. However, with the upcoming Draft, the timing is unfortunate. Collins reportedly hired a private investigation firm to prove that he was nowhere near the home of Mills at the time of her murder.

“We have proved where La’el was the day of the murder, just to establish he was not close to Mills’ home. We will offer names and witnesses who can confirm his whereabouts that day, up until the discovery of the woman’s body,” Boren said.

He added; “We believe that when detectives verify the information, Collins will be ruled out as a suspect in the murder, just as I believe he should be.

NFL teams interested in drafter the offensive lineman are attempting to find out if Collins is indeed the father of Mills’s child. Mills, who has a 10-year-old daughter, recently had a baby shower, reports The Baton Rouge Advocate.
