Damion (World) Hardy, the one-time larger-than-life drug kingpin who dated rapper Lil Kim, was sentenced Monday to life in prison for orchestrating six murders.

Hardy’s main hitman Aaron (E-Bay) Granton was also sentenced to a life sentence for pulling the trigger in five of the murders committed by the Cash Brothers drug crew. The Brooklyn-based gang which terrorized the Lafayette Garden projects.

Federal Judge Frederic Block said it’s never easy sending a person away to die in prison, “but in this case it’s more than justified.”

Block added if the U.S. Attorney General had sought higher punishment, both defendants would have likely received the death penalty. Hardy and Granton sat in court showing no emotion, no remorse and even looked bored as the victims’ family members delivered emotional impact statements.

During the trial, Prosecutors said Hardy ordered the murders in connection with drug turf wars and as revenge for the murder of Hardy’s brother, Myron (Wise) Hardy, who was a co-founder of Cash Money Brothers.

The gang adopted the name from the Wesley Snipes film New Jack City. “They (the victims) weren’t angels in the streets, but they were angels in our lives,” Epiphany Baum, 27, the daughter of murder victim Tyrone Baum, said in court.

Three of the anonymous jurors who found Hardy and Granton guilty of all charges were in attendance in Brooklyn Federal Court for the sentencing hearing. “We feel a connection to the case, and its closure for us too,” Juror No. 2 said to reporters after the court hearing.

Federal Agents arrested Hardy over a decade ago. However, the court ruled Hardy unfit for trial after being diagnosed with schizophrenia. Federal prosecutors won a court order to medicate him forcefully. Hardy’s defense attorney Jean Barrett had argued in court filings that Hardy still was not competent enough to stand trial, but the judge ruled Hardy mentally fit to for trial.

At one point Hardy stood up and told Block: “I am 100% completely innocent.” Granton ridiculed family members of the victims, reminding them of they were once his friends. “You all stood around me and ate candy out of my pocket,” Granton said.

The murders of Tyrone and Darryl (Homicide) Baum, who was a childhood friend of Mike Tyson nearly sparked a fight to the death between the gangster and the former heavyweight champ, government witnesses told the Brooklyn jury.

The snitches testified that in early 2000, Tyson actually put out a $50,000 hit on Hardy, and in retaliation the he ordered Tyson’s murder prior to his arrest.

Baum’s sister, Zakia Baum said in a statement that Hardy’s bloodlust was only about his desire for power. “The only person you cared about was your alter ego everyone knew as ‘World,” she said.
