Florida Teacher Pleads Guilty to Having Sexual Affair with Student

A former high school in Florida plead guilty to charges relating to sex crimes after she admitted to having an illicit ongoing sexual affair with a 14-year-old in 2012.

Irene Khan, 34, entered her guilty plea in court this week. As part of the plea, Khan admitted to initiating contact with the boy after he playfully wrote his phone number on a chalkboard during class intended for a female classmate.

According to the police report, after Khan’s arrest, she texted the boy later on the same day where she wrote, “Hey what’s up, it’s Irene.”

Investigators said Khan, who is a West Melbourne resident and mother of two children, and the boy had an affair that lasted for several months. During the affair, Khan and the boy repeatedly meet at local motels, in her apartment and car for sex.

“She got into a sexual relationship with him over several months, and we got information on that, and we brought the victim in and questioned him,” West Melbourne Police Spokesman Steve Wilkinson of said at a news conference.

Khan taught eighth grade at the Imagine Charter School but was fired around the same time the relationship began. Prosecutors said school officials fired Khan because of inappropriate behavior not related to the case.

According to local media reports, Khan was the subject of numerous complaints from parents regarding her conduct with students During class.

One outraged mother felt school officials could have prevented the teacher’s offense. “She lifted her shirt to show her tattoos! I think that if they had interviewed each child, they would have known what was going on,” said the parent, who refused to give her name.

Prosecutors charged Khan with lewd and lascivious battery. As part of her plea deal, she agreed to two years community control, which is a form of house arrest that allows for employment and ten years probation.

Khan will also be forced to register as a sex offender for life, if she were to violate the conditions of her deal, Khan could face up to 30 years in prison.

In addition, “The judge added a stipulation that prevents her from wearing a Santa suit or any other costumes that could appeal to children.”
