An anti-Gay reverend and married father of five from Michigan resigned from his post as pastor at a Lutheran Church in Midland, after the news site Queerty revealed his profile on the gay hook-up app Grindr.

Reverend Matthew Makela, who has in the past spoken out against the gay and transgender communities stepped down as associate pastor at St John’s Lutheran church in Midland, Michigan, after sending sexual messages to a man on Grindr.

Queerty posted one message Makela wrote, which read: “I love to make out naked. Oral and massage. And I top I would love to mess around with a bi-curious guy.”

Makela has expressed anti-gay views,  In one article written by the Pastor, he said “sexual attraction must be resisted the same way the temptation to steal or lie must be resisted.”

He even compared being gay to alcoholism.

‘The proof is in the sacrifice He made for all of us who sin… We don’t tell a person born with tendencies to abuse alcohol to keep on giving in to his innate desires because he can’t help it.
‘We try to help him in his struggle,’ he wrote.

However, Queerty revealed Screenshots it had obtained of Makela’s profile where he called himself a ‘top’ who loved ‘to make out naked and cuddle’ AND ‘oral and massage’.

In a comment that has since been removed from a Midlands Daily News story, Makela wrote: ‘I love people who have same sex attraction, and so does God.

The “good reverend” has confirmed the profile was indeed real.  When church officials learned of the profile, Makela decided to resign.

St.john’s Pastor Daniel Kempin made the announcement in an open letter to the congregation regarding Makela’s decision to step down.

“‘Pastor has acknowledged that there was sin and repentance, and I have testified that there is indeed forgiveness through the same Lord who forgives all our sins, Nevertheless, it is an end of our time together in ministry, and we ask for your continued prayers and support for the Makela family, Kempim wrote.

He continued, “I write this to you to warn you that you may be confronted with the details of the sin, and to remind you that sin is never pretty.”

Queerty provided an explanation as to why they decided to publicly out  Makela outside of Grindr: “If Makela made even one LGBT kid at St. John’s “Christ-based” elementary school, their parents, friends, family or anyone who ever stepped foot in the church feel like being true to yourself is shameful (and it seems all too likely that he did), then we’re glad to share his hypocrisy with the world.”
