Mexican Security Forces Capture Leader of the “Cartel of the Pacific” and one of El Chapo’s Most Trust Confidants

Mexican Federal Police have dealt a major blow to the Sinaloa Cartel with the capture one of their biggest operators leaders.

Mexican authorities announced the capture of the Leader of the Cartel of the Pacific, Adelmo Niebla González or Guillermo Nieblas Nava, known “El Señor”.Gonzalez is one of the most trusted associates of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman and Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada.

Security forces also captured Sinaloa operatives Javier Alonso Fuentes Tostado and Jose Ramon Ojeda Ruiz. In Addition, the operation seized two vehicles, three AR-15 assault rifles, 490 grams of cocaine, communications equipment, and various documents.

The Public Security Secretariat (SSP) said Gonzalez is responsible for the trafficking massive amounts of marijuana, methamphetamines and heroin in the through the Puerto Peñasco, General Plutarco Elías Calles, San Luis Río Colorado Maricopa and Casa Grande, in Phoenix, Arizona.

The agency said that according to investigations, “Niebla Gonzalez, a native of Tamazula, Durango, was also responsible for smuggling weapons into Mexico.”

Besides Culiacan and Tamazula, Gonzalez also runs the cartel’s operations in the cities of Mexicali and Tijuana, Baja California.

He began his criminal career over 20 years ago and was deported to Mexico after multiple arrests for illegally crossing migrants over the Sonoyta, Sonora border.

He was arrested on drug charges and organized crime in 2002 and met Mario Aguirre Avilés known as “El 9-9, one of the main lieutenants of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada in 2008.

Gonzalez formed the criminal group “Los Memos” based out of Sonoyta, under the flag of the Sinaloa Federation, becoming one of the main narco-traffickers most trusted by “El Chapo.”

He was arrested and confined in 2008 to the State Center for Social Rehabilitation in Durango on charges of possession of a firearm. However, he skipped after posting bail and continued operating his drug trafficking enterprise.

Sonora remains the stronghold of “Los Memos” and maintains a close working relationship with other organizations in the territory including Puerto Peñasco, and their leader Gonzalo Inzunza, “El Macho Prieto.”
