Drug dealers were thinking outside the bun when they outfitted an Iowa Taco Bell branch with a meth lab.

Cops spotted the men acting suspiciously outside the closed Cedar Rapids restaurant Tuesday morning, reports KWWL.

One claimed that he worked at the outlet, but the officers allegedly discovered the leftovers of a drug production operation in a utility area when they searched the building.

Christopher Adam Matous, 31, and Kent Jerome Duby, 56, were arrested and charged with conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine.

Matous also faces additional charges including meth possession.

“We understand that two people, one an employee, entered our franchisee’s restaurant illegally, allegedly possessing suspicious items,” said a Taco Bell spokesman.

“Both we and our franchisee find this completely unacceptable. Our franchisee has been cooperating with Cedar Rapids Police to investigate this isolated incident,” he told KWWL.

“Although the suspicious items found in the restaurant were not used in the kitchen, the employee has been terminated and our franchisee is considering pressing criminal charges.”

The restaurant will reopen after being sanitized.
