An unmanned drug mule drone caused a melee at an Ohio prison after dropping drugs into the yard area.

Corrections officers at Mansfield Correctional Facility in Ohio rushed into the north yard last week after a fight broke out among 75 inmates, according to a report from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.

After the incident, prison officials reviewed surveillance tape and saw what caused the jail yard brawl.

An unmanned drone flew over the yard and dropped a package.

Prior to the fight, inmates were able to get their hands on the delivery containing 144.5 grams of tobacco, 65.4 grams of marijuana and 6.6 grams of heroin.

The package was then thrown into the prison’s south yard, the incident report said.

That would equate to 140 individual doses if the heroin is even half pure according to The Columbus Dispatch.

Officers used pepper spray to subdue the brawling inmates, according to the report. Guards stripped searched Inmates before allowing them to return to their cells.

Nine inmates were placed in solitary confinement following the incident.

Authorities later found the package in an equipment room in the southern part of the facility.

Ohio authorities are now on the lookout for more attempts to use drones to smuggle drugs over prison walls and into inmates hands.

“It’s something we’re certainly aware of,” said Joellen Smith, spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections. “We’re taking a broad approach to increasing staff awareness and detection.”
