Joaquin ‘Chapo’ Guzman is being openly challenged by rival Mexican drug cartels. Since the Sinaloa boss’s brazen escape from prison in July, his rivals have stepped up rhetoric, sparking fears of renewed violence in the country.

Blog Del Narco has  published nuerous photos on Monday of purported Gulf Cartel members showing their faces and heavy weaponry.

This comes the week after El Blog Del Narco released dozens of photos of Gulf Cartel hit men with a message from the cartel, “We aren’t afraid to show our faces, we want you to see nothing but the Gulf Cartel.”

This time, cartel members say they’re showing their faces to show recently escaped Sinaloa cartel leader Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán that they’re not afraid.

El Blog Del Narco points out that — though the cartels were allied after a long-standing rivalry — Gulf Cartel members published a video earlier this month of them interrogating a Sinaloa cartel member, indicating new tension between the two groups.

Mexican journalist Anabel Hernandez told Telemundo that Guzmán had regular meetings with attorneys and other figures that allowed him to continue operating the Sinaloa cartel while in prison, according to NBC News. He escaped July 11.

Guzmán’s escape had prompted some fears of increased drug violence in Mexico: Steven Dudley of InSight Crime told Vox that Mexico could return to a “kingpin” fighting strategy, which targets the heads of major drug cartels and causes criminal organizations to splinter.

But, that strategy could lead to more violence between those splinter groups as jockey for dominance. In addition to the CDG, La Linea, which is the para-military wing of the Juarez cartel also released photos and a banner with a message directed towards Guzman.

The poster contained a message for “Chapo’, which read: “In prison you escaped, from us you won’t, we’re going to cut off the head”

Although most analysts say unless these cartels directly interfere with the Sinaloa cartel’s drug business, they doubt Guzman would react to the meaningless threats, if rival groups were to make a move for control of border crossing under the Sinaloa Federation’s control, then they could expect a massive and bloody response.

Since ‘Chapo’ Guzman’s arrest in February 2014, almost all of the major cartels have splintered because of a crack down by the Mexican government, except for the Sinaloa, organization which has not only maintained, but have actually increased in power.

Guzman has been the subject of one of the largest worldwide manhunts in history after his brazen escape from the Altipano Supermax Prison complex. Law enforcement officials believe the drug lord is hiding back in the mountains of Sinaloa, Mexico.

Few doubt he will once again take his place among the leadership board consisting of a four-man ruling panel that controls the Sinaloa Cartel,  the largest and most powerful crime syndicate in the world consisting of cells present in 58 different countries.
