A Colombian judge sentenced a man to 14 years in prison for forcing his 11-year-old daughter to swallow 103 cocaine-filled capsules in order to use her as a drug mule on a trip to Spain, the Attorney General’s Office said Monday.

The sentence imposed on Diego Fernando Mancilla Aguilar was handed down by a judge in Cali, a city in southwestern Colombia, for offenses committed on Nov. 17, 2014.

The crime was discovered when the girl’s father took his daughter to the emergency ward of a clinic looking for medical attention, alleging that she started feeling bad after going for a walk the day before.

The doctors discovered the reason she felt bad was that one of the capsules had broken open in the girl’s stomach, and was at the point of causing her death.

“The minor was admitted to the medical center with her father, who later went away. It was also established that the victim had a permit to leave the country for Spain,” the AG office said in a communique.

Mancilla, who was nabbed six days later, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought by the judge and will serve his sentence in Villahermosa Prison in Cali, the AG office said. EFE
