The day after a shocking lawsuit, which accused Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose of allegedly gang-raping his ex-girlfriend became public, the 2011 NBA MVP issued his first and only comments on the pending case.

“I’m just focusing on staying healthy and getting ready for the season, I am not going to comment other than to say: I know the truth, and am confident I will be proven innocent,” Rose said in a statement released by his attorney Thursday.

The lawsuit, first reported by TMZ Sports, was filed by an unidentified woman Wednesday who said she dated Rose from 2011 to 2013. She claims Rose and two of his friends slipped a drug into her drink with the intentions of committing sexual acts against her will.

The woman said she was able to leave Rose’s Beverly Hills residence with a friend and reached her own apartment before Rose and his two friends broke in and raped her.

In court documents, the woman said she woke up two days after the attack late for work, covered in lubricant, still clothed and unsure of what had occurred.

The woman said the attack happened in 2013.

It’s a claim Rose adamantly denies as does his attorney Mark Baute who acknowledged the woman and his client had a lengthy relationship.

“This is nothing more than a desperate attempt to shake down a highly respected and successful athlete,” the statement read.

“Mr. Rose was in a non-exclusive, consensual sexual relationship with the plaintiff for over two years.

The plaintiff expressed no complaints about Mr. Rose until various lawyers began to surface and demand that the plaintiff be paid millions of dollars.

“Two years have passed since Mr. Rose ended the consensual relationship with the plaintiff, and her claims are meritless now as they were two years ago.

We have complete confidence that the case will be dismissed and that Mr. Rose will be vindicated. This lawsuit is outrageous.”

The unidentified woman is seeking unspecified damages against Rose. The Beverly Hills Police Department said it is not conducting an investigation into the rape allegations, according to a department spokesman.
