An 18-year-old teen admitted to killing his sister’s alleged rapist as both he and his father were both convicted and given long prison sentences by a state court in the city of Freiburg in southern Germany.

The court found both men guilty. The 48-year-old father was sentenced to life in jail. His son is to serve an eight-year prison term.

The teen, who was tried as a juvenile, admitted to killing the 27-year-old man, who allegedly raped his sister. He was 17 years old at the time of the murder and faces a maximum of 10 years imprisonment.

The men stabbed the victim 23 times in his body, face and throat and he died from his injuries at the scene.

Police in the southern state of Baden-Wuerttemberg had previously released a search warrant for the alleged rapist. However, they were unable to find him before the family decided to take the law into its own hands, using social networks to locate the suspect.

Two other accomplices were given lighter custodial sentences; one 21-year-old for holding the victim down during the attack and a 19-year-old who helped in planning the ambush that led to bodily injury resulting in death.
