Authorities in Mexico have arrested a leading Sinaloa cartel operator with close ties to fugitive drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman in the Baja California Coast area.

According to Proceso, Jorge Humberto Acosta Gallegos, “El Guero Leches” a high-ranking member of the Sinaloa cartel and close Guzman associate was captured by State Police agents, at his ranch in the Santa Anita Tecate.
Originally from Tecate, “El Guero Leches” is a longtime drug trafficker, who began his criminal career working as a hitman for the Tijuana cartel before he switched allegiances to the Sinaloa Federation and eventually took over operations in Baja California Sur after the arrest of a leading operative known as “El Teo.”

Acosta Gallegos oversaw drug trafficking operations in the area and is believed to be responsible for ordering numerous kidnappings and executions on both sides of the border, according to a report by the National Center for Planning, Analysis, and Information for Combating Crime of the Attorney General’s Office.
However, so far only an arrest warrant for an April 2012 murder has been issued, but authorities expect to file additional murder charges.
