A gunman with the Los Zetas cartel was killed by Mexican authorities during a firefight in a rural area in the border city of Pedras Negras, Coahuila.

The incident took place in the rural Centinela community. Police officers with the Coahuila’s State Investigative backed up by the elite anti-kidnapping tactical team, descended on the area after receiving information about gunmen in the area.

When the police unit came across the Zetas gunman, one of the suspects opened fire, the remaining suspects ran off into the brush.

A member of the elite unit returned fire and killing the suspect, who was later identified as Vicente Valente “La Burra” Vital.

Investigators with the state attorney general’s office arrived at the scene and began to document the evidence.

Prosecutors are looking into whether Vital and his cohorts are responsible for a double murder that occurred earlier this month.

The city of Pedras Negras has seen a wave of violence take hold including some number of executions and rash of gruesome beheadings committed last month by the Zetas.

As JammedUp reported, four informants were kidnapped by the violent criminal group. All of the victims were beheaded, and their body parts dumped in public locations around the city.
