Mexican authorities detain brother of world’s richest drug trafficker

The Attorney General’s Office in Mexico has confirmed the arrest of the brother of one of the world’s wealthiest drug lords.

According to Proceso, Police arrested Elvis Valencia Gonzalez, the reputed chief financial operator of the Jalisco New Generation cartel (CJNG), who is also the brother of Abigael Gonzalez known as “Los Cuini,” the jailed leader of the Los Cuinis cartel, the drug trafficking organization with even more economic power well above even the Sinaloa Cartel.

The leader of Los Cuini, is the brother-in-law of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known better as El Mencho, the notorious boss of the ruthless Jalisco New Generation cartel.

Gonzalez was identified by authorities after he was admitted yesterday to a hospital in San José de Zapopan Real after sustaining a gunshot wound to his arm. The hospital is now under heavy security guarded by soldiers.

The state Attorney General Eduardo Almaguer said Abigael Gonzalez is fully identified “by military experts,” as the financial power that helped give rise to the Jalisco Cartel New Generation”.

Almaguer said that Gonzalez was made available for interrogation to the Attorney Specializing in Organized Crime.

He said the now detained Gonzalez was traveling in a van when gunmen in another vehicle opened fire, hitting him in the arm shot near the town of San Miguel el Alto.

The prosecutor reported that the injured victim could not conclusively prove their identity with the credentials that they showed, so the federal authorities were asked to begin the process of official identification.

“In initiating an intelligence review, we assume this person as being Gonzalez Valencia Elvis, who has since been transferred to a heavily guarded hospital first to provide him security from whoever had attacked him, and second, for us verify what his actual identification, “said Almaguer.

So far the identity of the assailants and their whereabouts are unknown.

According to the prosecutor, Gonzalez is the target of three preliminary state criminal investigations in Jalisco and is also facing federal drug and organized crime charges.

Almaguer Ramirez added that the detention protocol implemented has activated a Code Red in the city.
