A grand jury indictment unsealed Monday has charged a North Carolina woman and her father who is a former FBI agent for the second-degree murder of her husband in August.

Prosecutors said 31-year-old Molly Martens Corbett, and father, Thomas Michael Martens, 65, both face charges including second-degree murder and manslaughter in the slaying of Irish-born 39-year-old Jason Corbett.

Police discovered Corbett with massive head trauma and was unresponsive back on Aug. 2.

At the time, both the victim’s wife and father-in-law were present at the home and provided statements to investigators, which linked the fatality to a domestic dispute.

Martens Corbett, who is a retired FBI agent, reported the incident to police and said admitted that he struck Corbett with a baseball bat.

Mike Earnest, the uncle of Molly Martens, told Ireland’s UTV that both father and daughter are expected to claim self-defense and that their action were necessary and justified.

The death of Corbett set off a custody dispute between Martens Corbett, who is his second wife and stepmother to the children and Corbett’s family back in Ireland.

The biological mother died back in 2006, and Martens-Corbett helped raise the young children, serving as a motherly figure in their lives after she and Jason Corbett started dating, according to the New York Daily News.

The children are currently being cared for by their Irish relatives.

Martins-Corbett went on Facebook, to proclaim her innocence and blast the slander she says has been labeled against her.

“I cannot believe the level of slander, harassment, lies and absolute utter corruption. The truth does not matter. Shouldn’t the truth matter? Shouldn’t the truth prevail? Doesn’t anyone care about the truth?” she wrote.
