The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Friday that an ISIS militant publically executed his own mother in the city of Raqqa after she tried to convince him to leave the Islamic caliphate.

The woman, who was reported to be in her 40s, encouraged her son to leave the city with her fearing the Islamic State would be wiped out by the U.S.-backed alliance.

According to the British-based Observatory, which uses a vast network of sources on the ground to monitor the war in Syria, the 20-year-old man told the group of his mother’s comments, and she was arrested.

The Observatory cited local sources, who said the woman was executed on Wednesday near the post office building where she worked, in front of hundreds of people by her son in Raqqa, which is the defacto capital of the Islamic State in Syria.

ISIS has condemned hundreds of people to death it has accused of being spies or violating its radical interpretation of Islam.

According to the Observatory, In the 18 months since declaring its caliphate over the areas under its control in Syria and Iraq, the group have executed more than 2,000 Syrian civilians in the 18 months including those accused of homosexuality, apostasy, and even kids born with cerebral palsy
