Former Death Row founder Marion “Suge” Knight has hired a new attorney to represent him for his upcoming murder trial where he is accused of mowing down two men in a Compton, California parking lot last year.

Former prosecutor Stephen L. Schwartz now replaces Thomas Masereau, the lawyer who got Michael Jackson acquitted on child molestation charges, as Knight’s new legal counsel.

Schwartz replaced Thomas Mesereau during a closed-door hearing on Wednesday.

The change in legal counsel marks the fifth time Knight has changed lawyers. He chose to keep attorney Thaddeus Culpepper, who has been part of the case since May, on his legal team.

Knight is accused of killing Terry Carter and seriously injuring Cle “Bone” Slone last February during an altercation in the parking lot of Tam’s Burgers.

The former rap mogul pleaded not guilty and claimed self-defense after security video showed him in a red pickup truck hitting Sloan and running over Carter.

Knight claimed he was not trying to run either man, instead was trying to escape out of fear he would be killed because both Sloan and Carter were armed.
