Mexican actress Kate del Castillo is claiming that the Mexican government is out to destroy her.

In a statement sent to Univision, the actress said she has remained silent to the press about her involvement with drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman on the advice of her lawyers.

“I do not have to give explanations to the press, I’m advised not to talk by my lawyers because the government wants to destroy me,” Del Castillo wrote in an email to Univision.

The Mexican starlet is now the subject of a money laundering investigation by the Mexican Attorney General stemming from wiretaps between del Castillo, and Guzman’s attorney, which revealed the drug lord’s interest to invest in the actress’s tequila company.

Del Castillo planned to produce a biopic on Guzman’s life story and was in communication with the drug lord while he was a fugitive from the Mexican government.

She also arranged an interview with actor Sean Penn and Chapo Guzman on Oct. 2nd at a hideout in Durango, which was published in Rolling Stone the day after the drug lord’s Jan 8th recapture.

TMZ filmed Kate del Castillo, this past weekend accompanied by the TV host Jillian Barberie, entering the Mexican restaurant El Coyote, Los Angeles.

A reporter tries to question del Castillo about her involvement with Guzman and the Sean Penn interview, but she refused to issue a statement.

Attorney General’s Office (PGR), Arely Gomez announced last week that Kate del Castillo would be summoned to testify before the Federal Public Ministry at the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles.

The Mexican government condemned the intervention of the actress in arranging Guzman’s interview with Penn. Presidential spokesman Eduardo Sanchez said the meeting turned the actors into apologists for the drug kingpoin.
