Six people killed in the past 24 hours in Mexican border state

In the past 24 hours, several violent events in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas has left a toll of six dead, authorities reported.

According to the Tamaulipas Coordination Group (GCT), around 8:00 pm on Wednesday, Army soldiers came under attack by Gulf cartel gunmen. The soldiers repelled the attack, killing two assailants.

“The staff of National Defense, who were on a security and surveillance tour of Boulevard Hidalgo, came under attack by armed suspects who were traveling in a white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck,” a statement from GCT read.

The alleged cartel gunmen began firing with automatic weapons. As a chase ensued through the streets, the driver of the SUV lost control and crashed into two vehicles. The criminals exited the vehicle kept shooting at the soldiers as they attempted to escape on foot.

In the action, the Army troops managed to kill two of the gunmen and help innocent bystanders injured in the incident.

Another violent event occurred in Ciudad Victoria on Wednesday, after gunmen entered a liquor store and opened fire, killing three employees, wounding a fourth.

In the city of Matamoros, armed men entered a home and opened fire on several men, killing one victim and injured another shortly before 2 p.m.
