Four U.S. cities have made the annual list of the top 50 most violent cities in the world of 2015 based on crime statistics. `What’s surprising is the exclusion of Chicago, despite its high rate of gun violence.

The Mexico Citizens Council for Public Security published the rankings, which listed the Venezuelan city of Caracas, as the most dangerous city in the world for 2015.

Caracas saw 4,000 homicides with more than 300,000 inhabitants; that equates to 119.87 homicides per 100,000 people, which replaces the city of San Pedras, Honduras, which held the number one spot for four years straight, but saw murders decrease down to 885 in 2015.

Aside from Chicago, the other notable absences are the cities of Ciudad Juarez, once dubbed the “Murder Capital of the World,” the city has now fallen out of the top 50 along with Nuevo Laredo.

St. Louis ranked 16th on the list, the highest of the four American cities, followed by Baltimore, Detroit and New Orleans respectively

The U.S. city even ranks higher than every Mexican city  with the exception of Acapulco, which ranked fourth. The only other city in city in Mexico that ranked in the top 20 was Culiacan, which was listed as the 17th most dangerous city in the world.

According to the report, Latin America had 41 cities ranked on the list. The country with the most was Brazil, with 21 cities ranked out of the top 50.

The city with the greatest murder increase was in San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador with 1,981 homicides recorded in 2015.

Only four cities outside the Westen Hemisphere made the list, all in South Africa.
