A video has surfaced showing six police officers in Sinaloa, Mexico fleeing as armed cartel gunmen execute a businessman in front of his family members who were the ones who contacted police for help.

According to the local newspaper Noroeste, authorities responded to the home of the victim, identified as 27-year-old Eliás Constantino, who lives in the town of Cristo Rey.

As officer’s showed up on the scene, they witnessed gunmen dragging the man out of the house. Cell phone video taken by the family shows the officers, who realized they were outmanned and outgunned, running toward their vehicles getting in and high-tailing it out of there instead of helping the victim.

A woman can be heard on the video saying, “Puncture the tire, puncture the tire. These (profanity) are going to take off.”

The video then shows the suspects walking the victim out in the middle of the street to the screams of people shouting “They’re going to kill him. They’re going to kill him.”

Moments later, the sound of gunfire accompanied by heart-wrenching screams can be heard as Constantino is executed. His body was dumped on the Mazatlán-Durango highway.

Escuinapa’s police chief told the press that the four state police officers and two municipal officers not only fled the scene, but they fled town fled town,

“The officers have given statements to prosecutors, telling investigators that they fled because they were outnumbered,” the police chief said.

Corruption within the local governments, judicial branches, and local police has led to the culture of fear and level of impunity the drug cartels have operated with, that has overwhelmed the rule of law in Mexico.
