Mexican law enforcement officials confirmed human remains discovered in the state of Veracruz belonging to two of five young people who went missing last month.

The Department of the Interior said in a released statement on Monday that a search of a ranch in the town of Tlalixcoyan found evidence it had been used to conduct criminal activities including the handling of drugs and storing stolen oil.

Specially trained dogs led investigators to areas on the ranch where security officials collected human remains and blood stains.

Genetic testing conducted, using profiles provided by family members identified two of the youths who went missing Jan. 11 in Tierra Blanca as the victims.

A group consisting of one teenage girl and four young men were abducted at a gas station as they returned from a beach vacation.

The victims were pulled over for speeding and detained by local police who turned them over to members of a ruthless cartel.

Mexican authorities have arrested several members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and local cops including the chief of police in connection with the disappearances.
