Troubled rapper DMX is recovering from a possible drug overdose after police were forced to resuscitate him at a hotel in his native Yonkers, New York on Monday.

Murray Richman, the attorney for DMX whose real name is Earl Simmons, said Tuesday that the artist was released from a local hospital.

Yonkers Police officers responding to calls at a Ramada Inn found the 45-year-old rapper in the parking lot with no pulse.

Detective Lt. Patrick McCormack, who couldn’t identify Simmons by name because of privacy laws, said the victim described as a male, started breathing again only after paramedics gave him an opioid reversal medication for an overdose, performed CPR and gave him oxygen.

Richman confirmed to reporters that DMX, had, in fact, stopped breathing, but said he did not know the cause and maintained that his client suffers from asthma.

Simmons has battled substance abuse in the past. McCormick said officers at the scene found nothing suspicious that would warrant charges to be filed.
