Pope Francis launched a broadside against Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump and his proposed immigration policy which includes his plans to build a wall on the U.S. southern border with Mexico.

The Pope blasted the billionaire real estate mogul for taking aim at the vulnerable on the Papal’s plane on Thursday.

The Pontiff said Trump’s hard line on immigration, which includes mass deportations if he becomes president shows he is not a Christian.

When asked about Trump by a reporter on the plane, the Pope responded “A person who thinks only of building walls, and not building bridges, is not a Christian,” said the Pope, who has been a vocal advocate for immigrants and the vulnerable,

Trump quickly fired back at a campaign rally where he quipped, “No leader, especially a religious leader, should have the right to question another man’s religion or faith.”

“If and when the Vatican is attacked by ISIS, which as everyone knows is ISIS’s ultimate trophy, I can promise you that the Pope would have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been President because this would not have happened. ISIS would have been eradicated unlike what is happening now with our all talk, no action politicians,” he said in the statement.

The sniping between Trump and the Pope began last week after the Presidential candidate was critical of the Pontiff’s recent visit to Mexico during an interview with Fox Business Network.

Trump stated “I think that the pope is a very political person,” before adding, “I do not believe that it understands the danger of the open border our country has with Mexico.”

“I think Mexico got him to do it because they want to keep the border just the way it is. They’re making a fortune, and we’re losing,” Trump further asserted.
