The wife of Mexican drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán says she fears for her husband’s life.

Emma Coronel Aispuro, the former beauty queen wife, and mother to El Chapo’s twin daughters expressed her concerns in an exclusive interview with Mexican journalist Anabel Hernández from Telemundo news.

Aispuro told Hernandez that since her husband was recaptured back on Jan. 8th by Mexican forces in the town of Los Mochis, his health has deteriorated.

Telemundo announced Friday they would air the interview with Aispuro titled “The Queen of El Chapo,” which will provide insight into her guarded life as the wife of the nefarious leader of the Sinaloa cartel, including when they married and Guzman’s relationship with his twin daughters.

“They want to make him pay for his escape; they say that they are not punishing him. Of course, they are,” Aispuro claimed.

She added “they were there with him, watching him in his cell. They are right there, all day long, calling attendance. They don’t let him sleep. He has no privacy, not can’t even to go to the restroom.”

The drug lord’s lawyer, Juan Badillo has also come out and blasted the treatment of Guzman, claiming the guards at the prison were “turning his client into a zombie.”

Badillo said that Guzman explained to him during a recent visit, how he has not been allowed to sleep because of the constant cell checks by the guards.

“I am constantly getting awakened for bed checks, please, they are turning me into a zombie, they won’t let me sleep, I just want to be allowed to sleep,” Guzman said through his attorney.

Aispuro is no stranger to the narco life; her father is Inés Coronel Barreras, a former high-ranking member of the Sinaloa cartel currently imprisoned. She is also the niece of El Chapo’s former partner, Ignacio “Nacho” Coronel Villarreal, who was killed in a gun battle with the Mexican Marines back in July of 2010.

“Not everything people say true, I think that all human beings have the right to have at least the necessary things for life handy. They are not giving that to him,” Aispuro said during the interview.
