Federal authorities have indicted a sports agent in Florida on charges of illegal smuggling involving Cuban baseball players from Cuba to the U.S.

Bart Hernandez was arrested in a joint operation involving the FBI and Homeland Security and made an initial court appearance Friday evening.

Hernandez worked for Praver Shapiro Sports Management, who began a joint venture with entertainer Mark Antony’s Magnus Media in November.

Hernandez represented Seattle Mariners outfielder Leonys Martin, who was referenced in an earlier indictment charging four people with conspiring to smuggle ballplayers and other people from Cuba illegally.

Three of the defendants in the previous indictment have pleaded guilty.

His attorney, Daniel Rashbaum, had no immediate comment on the charges.
