Authorities say a 17-year-old teen gang member was killed in a failed attempt to rob a drug stash house in a Texas border city.

According to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responding to reports of gunfire discovered the body of 17-year-old Miguel Angel Alcala Romero, who police say was fatally shot by a gunman from his own group during a botched robbery attempt.

Alcala-Romero was thought to have sustained several gunshot wounds. However, an autopsy has since determined that the teen was struck in his back by one bullet, which exited his chest, traveled into his arm and exited out of his forearm.

Sgt. JP Rodriguez said investigators found multiple shell casings outside of a rural home in Mission, Texas.

According to Breitbart Texas, Romero was born just across the border in the Mexican city of Reynosa. The owner of the home Felix Rodriguez admitted to investigators that he had been selling narcotics out of his house.

Rodriguez was arrested after discovering he had been on probation for a previous offense, but it was revoked.

The Sheriff’ Office said a 15-year-old male associated with a local gang known as the Po’Boys was also arrested and formally charged in juvenile court with one count of capital murder in connection with the fatal shooting.

Prosecutors said no decision has been made whether to charge the teen suspect as an adult.

Police investigators believe Alcala Romero, along with the 15-year-old accused shooting suspect and another person went to the home of Rodriguez with intentions of robbing the drug stash.

Alcala Romero reportedly got out of a black SUV purchased drugs from Rodriguez, when he returned to the vehicle, his two associates rushed the house while firing weapons.

Authorities are conducting a search for the third suspect in the vehicle.
