Authorities investigate death of woman found in laundry chute in Vegas hotel

Las Vegas authorities are investigating the death of a California woman whose body was discovered at the bottom of a laundry chute the city’s tallest hotel-casino.

Police were contacted by employees at the D Las Vegas who found the corpse of Kalli Medina-Brown’s on Sunday around 2:40 a.m.

Brown of Citrus Heights, California, worked as a legal secretary for a law firm. Prior to the death of Brown, she had been out celebrating her upcoming 27th birthday with her husband and some friends.

Although initial reports said Medina-Brown may have accidentally fallen down the chute after suffering a medical episode, detectives revealed they are investigating whether the death was a homicide.

The Las Vegas metropolitan police department’s public information officer Larry Hadfield said the investigation is ongoing but called Brown’s death “suspicious,” at a press conference.

Carl Worrell, who has been friends with Brown for 16 years, described the 26-year-old as “the responsible one. She wasn’t a wild person, She was calm and mature.”

Hadfield said coroners have not released the cause of death.

“The staff are deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident that took place at the D Las Vegas. The authorities have our full cooperation and cannot provide further comment on the ongoing investigation,” Lorena Amaya, a spokeswoman for the hotel-casino said in a statement.

The D Las Vegas is a 34-storyhas 629 deluxe room hotel, located downtown Vegas according to its website.
